Relaxing with Photograhy

The current picture on the home page, called Rusted Pier, is a photo that I came across while relaxing this evening.  I’d been passing over this image for the last couple of weeks, but something about it grabbed my attention.  A few months ago, my brother-in-law and I were talking about Photoshop techniques, and how he uses texture as a graphic designer to create images with depth and how to bring a viewer’s attention into the subject that you are presenting.  His examples of wood, metal, and rust textures stuck with me as I’ve been noticing them ever since.

As a photographer, it is easy to be totally enamoured with the thrill of the shoot.  It is easy to get caught up with the quest for perfecting technique and capturing as much of the world around you as possible.  But what happens between photo shoots, or projects, does your passion extend into observing your own work as well as others around you?

Lately, I’ve found more satisfaction and comfort in reviewing my own photos.  I’m not sure if that is because of my confidence level in both my photographic and processing techniques or because I realize that my photos truly do capture and express stories that I want to present.  I find myself wanting to find and follow other photographers and their blogs, not just because it is good to see what others are producing, but to discover why they are producing it.

When the weather is bad, or I need to take a break from editing proofs, this is where I find myself:  Relaxing with Photography.
